Vienna was our University center. We need to remember, there was no university in Slovenian language at that time. Many exceptional architects, among others: Max Fabiani, Josip Vancaš, Jurij Zaninović, Ciril Metod Koch, managed to get projects all around the monarchy and shared their knowledge, ideas and projects. When you travel around Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia or Austria, you might notice similar building décor and familiar architect names.
In Ljubljana, at that time the capital of Carniola, a milestone in architecture was the earthquake in April 1895. Many buildings were damaged, many remains removed, even the city center was moved to the left riverbank. A new, star shaped Prešeren’s Square was designed and many colorful, elegant buildings around that area have brought a fresh air in Ljubljana’s architecture. A unique part, many unique stories.
Go for a stroll in the area towards Ljubljana’s railway station or towards Tivoli Park. Alternatively, simply join us, with locals is always fun. During our time together, we will reveal some insight stories about the turbulent time before WWI.
Tours can be done in person or live, online. DOBRODOŠLI!
